UCI Gran Fondo World Series
Julian Alaphilippe and Anna van der Breggen have already got one. You could have one as well. The UCI rainbow jersey is the most coveted jersey in cycling and the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are your opportunity to represent your country on the international stage and race for the UCI rainbow jersey!
What is the UCI Gran Fondo World Series?
The UCI Gran Fondo World Series (former UCI World Cycling Tour) is a series of UCI-sanctioned races held all over the world. Some 29 qualifier events will qualify the top 20% in each age group to the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, the former UCI Masters Road World Championships, where the champions are awarded with the coveted rainbow jersey.
While promoting high level competition for Masters and Amateurs, one of the aims of this series is the globalization of “Cycling for All”. With that in mind, the geographical spread of the events is very important, alongside with strict organizational and sporting criteria, and a certain tourism interest.
The UCI Gran Fondo World Series concept is focusing on both very competitive riders who either just miss the skills and talent to become a Pro Elite rider or who still want to compete at a high level at a later age, but also to fun riders who like to keep fit and finish the event.
The UCI Gran Fondo World Series was created in partnership between the UCI and Golazo.
How can I qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships?
The Tour of Cambridgeshire is the UK’s official qualifying event for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. Ride in the Time Trial, finish in the top 20% of your Masters Age Group and you’ll be formally invited by the UCI to compete for your country in the World Championships Time Trial.
For the World Championships Road Race, you are able to qualify by taking part in either the Men’s Road Race, Women’s Road Race or the Gran Fondo. The qualification results for the World Championships Road Race are determined by the number of the riders starting within each age group, with the top 20% fastest chip times within both the Road Race and Gran Fondo combined making up the qualifier results.
At the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, all riders must hold a current ‘Full Racing License’ from their National governing body.
